Injuries can be sustained when body parts are exposed to a vending machine’s internal working parts.

Some vending machines are fitted with an internal stopper or bar that prevents the exit chute door from being opened further than approximately 120mm. These stoppers and bars are designed to prevent small children from climbing into the chute.

Some vending machines do not have the internal stoppers or bars fitted which increases the risk to small children.

Anyone who has a vending machine should check to see if the exit chute door can be opened to a gap wider than 120mm, particularly if it is located in a place accessible to children. If it does, consider de-energising and removing the machine from service until a stopper is installed.
