Retail

  • Safety in the retail industry

Retails workers are likely to be injured at work due to body stressing, mental stress, falls, slips and trips or being hit by a moving object.
  • Retail trading hours

Where a shop is located, its size and what it sells determines their trading hours.
  • Holiday shop trading arrangements

South Australia has special shop trading arrangements for Australia Day, Easter, Anzac Day and the Christmas/New Year period.
  • Customer aggression and violence in retail

Dealing with aggressive, rude or angry customers can be very confronting and upsetting, especially for younger, inexperienced staff.
  • Escalator and moving walkway void in-fills

The escalator or moving walkway void in-fill is the area between the moving handrail and balustrade. They are often not built to support loads.
  • Roll cages

Roll cages are wheeled cages used for the movement of stock and goods. These cages can cause injury to both workers and pedestrians if not used correctly.
  • Shopping trolley collection

The hazards associated with shopping trolley collection are often overlooked. Store managers and collection services must have policies and procedures in place to prevent injuries.
  • Supermarkets

Some of the most prevalent injuries sustained for supermarket workers are related to muscular stress arising from handling, lifting, carrying or putting down objects.
  • Tenancy agreements

Commercial tenancy agreements must be in line with the legislation to be valid. This includes following SA's retail trading laws.
  • Vending machines

It is recommended that all vending machines are fitted with an internal stopper or bar that is designed to prevent small children from climbing into the chute.
