There are now special trading arrangements in place for the Greater Adelaide Shopping District (CBD & Metro area) on certain days. Non-exempt shops can now open:

  • until midnight on the day after the fourth Thursday in November (Black Friday) and no more than 3 weekdays during the period from 11 December to 23 December (being days specified by the Minister by notice in the Gazette each year)
  • from 9am to 5pm on Boxing Day (with the exception of a shop that is wholly or predominantly the sale of foodstuffs eg. non-exempt supermarkets)
  • from 9am to 5pm on ‘additional public holidays’ that occur on a Monday or Tuesday when certain days fall on a Sunday i.e.  New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

2022 Christmas shopping period

The following trading hours will apply during this year’s festive season. Normal trading hours will apply on all other days.

Please note:

  • Thursday 15 December, Thursday 22 December and Friday 23 December have been gazetted as the 3 weekdays for midnight trading this year
  • Additional public holidays are due to Christmas Day and New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday.
  • Proclaimed Districts only applies to the towns of Millicent, Mallala, Binnum, Frances and Kybybolite. The rest of Regional SA is deregulated and shops can trade whenever they choose
