An animated, talking safety cone will star in a new SafeWork SA awareness campaign from today that aims to help South Australians stay safe at work.

The campaign, called Safety at work is a serious job, features Stanley the cone providing advice across three common workplace hazards – falls from heights, roll-away vehicles and spills.

The campaign aims to remind workers, employers and sole operators about the dangers and the need to put safety first regardless of where they work.

People can spot Stanley in advertisements throughout South Australia between April and December 2026 across social media, on demand TV, digital, print and billboards.

The hazards highlighted in the campaign have been identified using SafeWork SA and ReturnToWorkSA data and aligned to national strategic work health and safety priorities

Between 2022 and 2025, SafeWork SA received 300 notifications of a workplace incident involving a serious fall.

Sadly, 12 people died and a further 288 people were seriously injured during this period. The construction sector remained the riskiest industry followed by transport, manufacturing and agriculture.

During the same period, SafeWork SA received 196 slip and trip notifications with many associated with spills. This accounted for five fatalities and 191 seriously injured.

A staggering 42 roll-away vehicle incidents were reported to SafeWork SA over the past four years, the impact of which can be catastrophic. Four people died and 17 were seriously injured while 13 incidents involved significant property damage.

The awareness campaign will support SafeWork SA’s ongoing compliance and education activities across a range of industries.

In 2024-25, SafeWork SA visited more than 7700 worksites and issued nearly 5240 statutory notices.

A total of 18 convictions were achieved for breaches to work health and safety laws – the highest in 10 years – delivering record fines totalling $2.37 million.

The advertisements will direct South Australians to the SafeWork SA website where they can access tools and information to help them stay safe at work.
