Inadequate safe work procedures cost company $39,000

Scrap metal business Trading Metals Pty Ltd has received a conviction and been fined $39,000 plus court costs in the Industrial Magistrates Court after a worker's finger was crushed while he was helping load pallets on a trailer.

In a packed function room at the Crowne Plaza, Hair&Beauty SA this week launched Safety with Style, a cutting edge work health and safety guide specific for the hair and beauty

SafeWork SA contributed $50,000 towards the project through a South Australian Work Health and Safety Innovative Practice Grant.

IKC Sheds Pty Ltd has received a conviction and been fined $10,000 plus court costs in the Industrial Court after a worker sustained injuries to his back when he fell through a roof.

Daylight saving ends this Sunday

Daylight saving in South Australia comes to an end this Sunday.

"With daylight saving ending at 3am on Sunday 5 April 2015 we're encouraging everyone to wind their clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night to avoid any confusion about the timing of Easter Sunday events," said SafeWork SA's Acting Executive Director, Marie Boland.

Media Statement: Fatality, Whyalla Race Track

SafeWork SA regrets to advise that a male volunteer race steward has been killed after being hit by a car at the Whyalla Race Track last night.

SafeWork SA Acting Executive Director, Marie Boland, confirms the State's work health and safety regulator is investigating any potential breaches of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA), and are working closely with South Australian Police Major Crash Investigation Unit at the scene of the fatality.

Get funded to improve women's work health and safety

SafeWork SA is providing the opportunity for people to 'get funded' to improve the safety of women at work and build on the historical legacy of South Australia's first Lady Inspector of Factories through the annual Augusta Zadow Awards.

SafeWork SA, South Australia's work health and safety regulator, is funding practical solutions, initiatives or research up to $10 000 each to improve the health and safety of women at work.

SafeWork SA has been notified on 21 January 2015 of a workplace incident at Edinburgh North. A worker was using an oxy torch when an explosion occurred. He has sustained burn injuries.
