Safety champions announced for 2019 Safe Work Month competition

Six registered workplace activities were rewarded as part of a competition run by SafeWork SA for Safe Work Month 2019.

Businesses were invited by SafeWork SA to register a workplace event for the month of October with more than 40 South Australian businesses registering events.

Workplace activities registered included many businesses hosting a morning tea and bbqs with safety presentations across different areas of work health safety including being sun smart, mental health, and hazard identification.

Businesses and their registered events selected to receive recognition were assessed against originality of idea, relevance to health and safety, promotion of events, and workplace engagement.

Winners were awarded either gold, silver or bronze awards.

Gold award

  • N.F. McDonnell & Sons have been working to build up Safe Work Month to be a big event in their calendar and have been promoting a competition since January to recognise safety champions with winners announced at an event held at the end of Safe Work Month in October. Further events were held over the entire month with a focus on prevention including mental health awareness, and promotion of healthy eating and lifestyle choices.
  • Advanced Plastic Recycling ran activities including a safety competition that provided suggested safety improvements with practical, cost effective and positive impacts that will be implemented across the business. The competition encouraged people to think about different areas of the business and about safety improvements in practical and simple terms.
