A workplace safety project to create awareness about the debilitating condition endometriosis will launch its first webinar next week.

Recovery Partners was granted $12,500 in October through SafeWork SA’s Augusta Zadow Awards for its ‘More than “Women’s Issues” in the Workplace’ proposal.

The 7 December webinar is the first in a series of events aiming to provide education on the impact of endometriosis on the individual, the workplace and wider community.

The project team will also offer practical solutions based on current evidence-based research for women in their day to day lives and for organisations, with the goal of improving the management of endometriosis in the workplace.

Speakers at the free webinar include pain physician and chair of the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia associate professor Susan Evans, rehabilitation counsellor and Recovery Partners team leader for SA Hayley Davies and exercise physiologist Eva Jakob, also from Recovery Partners.

The Augusta Zadow Awards have been run by SafeWork SA since 2005 and provide grants of up to $25,000 to help meet the costs of a work health and safety initiative.

Presented in October during National Safe Work Month, the awards support initiatives, research or further education that improve health and safety for women and young workers in South Australia.

Augusta Zadow was an advocate and safety champion for women’s rights in the workplace as South Australia’s ‘First Lady Inspector of Factories’ in 1895. She was a woman ahead of her time, with many of the working conditions today, attributable to her advocacy.

The webinar, Endometriosis – More than “Women’s Issues” in the Workplace will be held via Zoom at 10.30am Adelaide time on Wednesday, 7 December. Register here  .
