In April 2009 daylight saving in South Australia was extended on an ongoing basis and is now observed from the first Sunday in October until the first Sunday in the following April. This aligns South Australia with the period of daylight saving observed in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Extensive community consultation established that South Australians value the extra daylight hours in the warmer months for sport, recreation and spending time with family, in addition to the business and trade benefits supported by industry groups.
