Superannuation

Superannuation
Employers must make sure all employees receive at least a 9% superannuation contribution. If you are a casual employee you must earn at least $450 a month before your employer is obligated to contribute to your superannuation. Some awards give casuals the right to employer superannuation contributions regardless of their earnings. Check the award or agreement that applies to your work for more details.

The money (contribution) from your employer must be paid into an approved superannuation fund, which you cannot access until you retire, unless you have left your job and it is under $200.

Your payslip should indicate how much your employer is paying on your behalf and the superannuation fund that the money is paid into.

If you would like further information, contact your superannuation fund or the Australian Taxation Office.
