Health and Safety committees can't function effectively if members do not receive training. Training helps committee members to resolve Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) issues and reduces the number of injuries and illnesses in the workplace. All committee members should understand and be able to:
- apply the OHS legislation
- apply hazard management principles
- prioritise tasks and develop action plans.
Training for committee members should include information on how to chair meetings, take minutes and organise procedures. Training on team work will also assist the committee function as an effective and responsible team.
