WorkCover Corporation's Access and Equity Unit, working with lecturers from the Workplace Education Service and Adelaide Institute of TAFE, identified that occupational health and safety training in SA workplaces was not effectively addressing the needs of workers with limited English language and literacy skills.
This training resource was developed to be used in workplace training to teach occupational health and safety competencies while taking into account the varying language and literacy needs of workers.
The Resource Kit has been designed with two critical factors in mind:
- competencies required by employees who don't have supervisory responsibility in the workplace
- employees who are in need of language and literacy skills development.
This Resource Kit seeks to integrate these competencies and build learning from both perspectives simultaneously. In addition, learners using the kit will develop general computer skills and gain experience with online technologies.
