Workplace bullying can have a significant negative impact on individuals and the workplace. Like all hazards in the workplace it needs to be managed.

Everyone at work has a responsibility for work health and safety - physical and psychological - and to ensure that workplace bullying does not occur.

National workplace bullying guides

The two national bullying guides explain what is and isn't workplace bullying, how it can occur, and how risks can be managed.

They show you how to identify the risk of bullying occurring in your workplace. For example, it's a good idea to monitor incident reports and patterns of absenteeism, and develop anti bullying policies and procedures.

The guides also explain how to respond to bullying and how to conduct an investigation into allegations of bullying.

The worker's guide tells individuals where to seek advice and what steps they should take if they think bullying is occurring in their workplace. The guide also provides information on what to do if a workplace bullying report has been made against you. In addition, it highlights the new provisions of the Commonwealth's Fair Work Act 2009 which allows the Fair Work Commission to consider individual applications to stop bullying in workplaces.

Business SA, provides employer members with advice, training, mediation, support and specialist consultancy.

Equal Opportunity Commission, provides an independent complaint handling service to help workers address issues of sexual harassment or discrimination (based on disability, race, sex, age, sexuality, pregnancy or marital status). Takes up discrimination complaints from job seekers, customers, students and tenants.

Fair Work Commission, the national workplace relations tribunal, an independent body with power to carry out a range of functions including hearing applications for unfair dismissals, unlawful terminations, enforcement of minimum wages and employments conditions, adverse action, unlawful discrimination and dispute resolution.

Fair Work Ombudsman, works with employers, workers, contractors and the community to promote harmonious, productive and co-operative workplaces. This includes investigating workplace complaints and enforcing compliance with Australian workplace laws.

Industrial Relations Commission, provides mediation, alternative dispute resolution and support to people (and their representatives) involved in employment-related disputes.

ReturnToWorkSA, provides information and a complaint resolution service for employers and workers and/or representatives on procedures, rights and obligations under the Return to Work Act 2014.

SA Unions, provides information, training, advocacy, support, mediation and conciliation, investigation and access to alternative dispute resolution to all union members. The SA Unions Young Workers Legal Service provides free legal advice that assists all workers under the age of 30 years.

Traineeship and Apprenticeship Services, provides information, advice and support to both employers and trainees, apprentices (and their parents and guardians, if they are under 18 years of age) who are engaged on training contracts. Registers employers to employ and train apprentices and trainees.

Working Women's Centre, provides resources, information, support, training and advocacy for working women who are not members of a union. Also provides resources, some training and consultancy for organisations who wish to implement strategies to address workplace bullying.
