Asbestos Assessor Licence
Under regulation 475 air monitoring must be conducted at all licensed asbestos removals by an independent licensed asbestos assessor. This requirement also applies to Class B removals via transitional regulation 726.
The air monitoring can provide information for clearance for the PCBU for re-entry (reoccupation) as well as provide exposure information for the licensed removalists workforce.
The Asbestos Assessor Licence was introduced into South Australia on 1 January 2015. Laboratories (as a business) were previously approved to carry out asbestos monitoring work but now individual persons are licensed under Regulation 489. Regulation 528 requires SafeWork SA to keep a publicly available register of each person holding an asbestos assessor licence.

Note: This licence enables the holder to conduct air monitoring at licensed asbestos removals and clear class A asbestos removals for reoccupation. Applicants must be familiar with the provisions of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) and Chapter 8 of the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 (SA), relevant Codes of Practice and Australian Standards. If applicants intend to count their own slides (to the membrane filter method) rather than use the services of a NATA laboratory, they must hold documented slide counting proficiency.
