Hazard Alert No 84A Use of flammable refrigerants including hydrocarbon mixes was re-issued in October 2010.

Advise for refrigeration contractors (including automotive mechanics) and owners of industrial, commercial and domestic refrigeration plant about the risks associated with using flammable refrigerants.

Hazard Alert No 33 - Use of highly flammable liquids as a cleaning agent in parts washing appliance was issued in April 2001.

An employee suffered burns to his wrist and forearm when flammable liquid being used in a parts washing appliance caught fire.

The recycled thinners allegedly being used formed highly flammable vapours, which ignited when the appliance was switched on. Extensive damage was caused to the paint mixing room as well as the injuries sustained by the employee.

Hazard Alert No 19 - Use of petrol and other flammable liquids as cleaning products was issued in January 2000.

A cleaning contractor was allegedly using petrol as a degreasing agent for his cleaning equipment. The petrol came in contact with a naked flame in the vicinity of the contractor resulting in him being engulfed by flames.

The contractor suffered extensive third degree burns to 70% of his body.
