Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless, non-irritating gas with no inherent warning properties.

Early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are non-specific (headache and nausea), therefore, episodes of significant carbon monoxide exposure can occur without the problem being recognised.
