The process
Your first year within the SafeWork Management Program is organised around nine activities. Each activity contains set of tasks that provide a framework for the operation of the consultative group:
We've outlined the activities below:
- Activity 1: Commitment to the Program
- Activity 2: Preparing for Emergencies
- Activity 3: Hazard Reporting
- Activity 4: Effective Consultation
- Activity 5: Managing Risks - Identify your Problems
- Activity 6: Managing Risks - Assess your Problems
- Activity 7: Managing Risks - Fix your Problems
- Activity 8: SafeWork Training
- Activity 9: SafeWork Review
The Result
When your consultative group has successfully completed all of the activities from Year One, your business will have a more systematic approach to Occupational Health Safety and Welfare (OHSW) – tailored to your specific workplace and addressing the hazards in your work environment.
You may find that as you work through the Activities, you have some effective systems in place already. The SafeWork Management Program will not only confirm that what you have in place is sound, but also help you complete your systematic approach.
Using the website
The SafeWork Management Program is a do-it-yourself website – dependant on a commitment from management to get things happening in the workplace. Your job will be made much easier if you involve and consult effectively with workers throughout the process.
While you won't need OHSW expertise to use this website, some activities require technical expertise to control some risks (eg. manual handling assessments or noise monitoring) or to design certain procedures.
Map of the Activities
We've included a task map at the beginning of each activity to let you know what's involved. The map will help you prepare and understand what is involved in the SafeWork Management Program. It provides you with:
- an overview of the activity
- a 'how-to guide' for successful completion of each task
- the tools available to help you complete the task
- information on the outcomes you will achieve.
It is important that you review the task map with the consultative group or with workers prior to commencing each activity.
You're now ready to start the SafeWork Management Program
Determine who will need to be involved in the consultative group and invite them to participate.
We would like to congratulate you on joining the SafeWork Management Program - have a good SafeWork journey!
