Impacts of bullying

Employer advice

No matter who is doing the bullying it's your responsibility to stop it and to provide an environment that makes this communication simple.

Some people are afraid to report bullying - the bullies can rely on their silence to continue with the harassment.

More costs, less performance

Bullying can adversely affect your entire organisation, including your overall performance in workers compensation claims.

  • More mistakes being made by tired workers who cannot concentrate because of a negative work environment.
  • An increase in workers compensation claims both directly (stress-related claims) and indirectly (injuries resulting from tiredness and poor concentration).
  • Highly trained and experienced workers resign and leave their jobs.
  • Teamwork suffers because there is less cooperation and communication.
  • Increase in the use of alcohol or drug abuse at work.
  • Lack of respect for you and your company when nothing is done to stop this behaviour.
