Hiring staff

Employers who put a priority on safe work in their business can achieve direct human and financial benefits when injuries decline. Therefore it's important to get started in safe work today. By interacting with your workers you receive a new perspective on common hazards and OHS issues in your business - it's information from the people who know.

When you implement a safer approach in your business plan and consult with workers - you can:

  1. improve health and safety
  2. reduce the costs of injury
  3. increase productivity and morale in your workplace.

When do I involve workers?

Involve workers when you:

  1. identify hazards
  2. assess risks
  3. decide on measures to control risks
  4. implement controls
  5. review the effectiveness of controls
  6. develop and review policies and procedures
  7. investigate incidents / accidents
  8. change work practices and procedures
  9. introduce new chemicals or equipment to the workplace
  10. change the layout or design of the workplace.

Who should I involve?

You should ensure that your workers (and their representatives) have access to all relevant information - give them adequate time to consider and discuss it.
