On Hire Employment Services Industry OHS Working Party
The On Hire Employment Services Industry entered into the SAfer Industries Program in August 1998 with the formation of an On Hire Employments Services Industry Occupational Health and Safety Working Party.
The On Hire Employment Services Industry OHS Executive Working Party consists of representatives from the employment services industry and WorkCover Corporation.
Role of the working party
The working party has identified its role as the "...means by which the On Hire Employment Services Industry and the WorkCover Corporation will work together to improve the industry's OHS performance".
Within this role the working party identified that it had a number of functions including:
- Working with the WorkCover Corporation to identify issues that are adversely impacting on the industry's OHS performance.
- Formulating an Industry OHS Strategic Plan that outlines the goal, objectives and strategies to improve the industry's OHS performance.
- Consulting with industry stakeholders regarding the industry's OHS Strategic Plan
- Keeping industry stakeholders informed on the implementation of strategies to improve the industry's OHS performance.
- Promoting and encouraging employers and employees within the industry to implement measures to improve the industry's OHS performance.
- Monitoring the progress and assisting in the evaluation of the effectiveness of strategies to improve the industry's OHS performance.
- Managing the development and implementation of strategies to improve the industry's OHS performance.
Strategies
The On Hire Industry OHS Working Party's goal is to have "The on hire industry working together to reduce our claims, costs and levy rates".
To achieve this goal the working party has set itself the following objectives:
- To have on hire agencies and their employees operating to agreed occupational health, safety and injury management standards by 30 June 2001.
- To have on hire agencies meet their roles and responsibilities under the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act and the Workers' Rehabilitation and Compensation Act by 30 December 2000.
- To ensure injured on hire employees are provided with suitable rehabilitation and return to work programs by 30 June 2001.
- To have host employers meet their responsibilities under the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act, Regulations and relevant Codes of Practice with respect to on hire employees.
