Induction and training
Occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation requires that employers provide adequate training and supervision for new workers.
An employer should provide information about hazards, safe work procedures, the health and safety policy and the arrangements for health and safety. Training should be part of the health and safety program and employers should correct any behaviour that could cause risk to health and safety.
Workers have an important role in assisting a new worker and encouraging them to ask questions and raise any issues about health and safety.
A new worker should be informed of the emergency procedures for the workplace and told what to do if they are injured - including reporting requirements.
