Health and safety representatives (HSRs)
Workers can elect a health and safety representative (HSR) to represent them on health and safety issues. The HSR should be given facilities and support to assist them fulfil this function.
The HSR has the following responsibilities:
- To inspect the workplace immediately if there is an accident, dangerous occurence, imminent danger or risk to the health and safety of workers.
- To investigate work group complaints regarding OHS.
- To discuss issues affecting the health and safety of the work group.
- To discuss workplace process or policy changes that may affect OHS.
- To issue default notices or a stop work order if there is an immediate or imminent danger to workers health and safety.
The HSR should have access to health and safety information in the workplace.
HSRs are entitled to paid leave to attend approved training courses.
