Involvement in OHS
Consultation between employers and employees is fundamental to the effective management of occupational health and safety (OHS) in the workplace.
Employers
Employers should consult with workers and representatives before making any changes that could affect the health and safety of others. Consultation should occur when:
- a hazard is identified.
- the method to assess the risk is being determined.
- control measures are being implemented and reviewed.
People from diverse cultural and literacy backgrounds must be considered during consultation.
Employees
Workers and/or their health and safety representative should consult with employers when a workplace health and safety problem has been identified. Discuss with employers the reasons behind the problem and the ways for resolving the problem.
