The control measures should be evaluated both during and after implementation.
Possible questions are:
- Has the control measure been successful in eliminating or reducing the risks associated with the hazard?
- Has the control measure created a new hazard?
- Is there a need for information, instruction and training for people at the time of implementing the control measure?
- Are there other controls which also need to be considered (eg engineering, training)?
If the hazard has been effectively controlled, your next task is to review the process. If it has not, then you will need to implement alternative control measures.
The timeframes for monitoring the control measures should be realistic. For example, if the measure will affect existing work practices it may have to be implemented gradually. Timeframes should also allow for the measures to be tested against set criteria.
